Discover our anti-static packaging, conductive packaging and ESD-safe solutions

Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can be costly when it damages fragile electronics. Anti-static packaging can help you protect valuable electrical components, devices and equipment. At Macfarlane Packaging, our specialist manufacturing division can provide anti-static, conductive and ESD-safe packaging solutions tailored to your needs.

We can design and manufacture reliable anti-static packaging for your business with a wide range of options for any application.

Our anti-static solutions can be made from a range of materials (including foam, cardboard and corrugated plastic) into anti-static bags, anti-static boxes, tote and liners, as well as inserts. We can also provide anti-static bubble wrap, anti-static bubble bags and anti-static foam rolls for your consumable needs too.

Corstat® Anti-static Corrugated Cardboard

Corstat® packaging and handling products are renowned as the industry standard for conductive performance in the electronics sector.

Engineered to deliver cutting-edge protection, Corstat® products are trusted by engineers and manufacturers for their unmatched consistency, ease of use, and reliability in safeguarding ESD-sensitive applications.

Manufactured from carbon coated corrugated cardboard, Corstat® can be made into anti-static boxes, as well as totes and dividers.

Corriplast Anti-static Corrugated Plastic

Conductive Corriplast is ideal for any item requiring protection from electrostatic discharge.

Manufactured from carbon-loaded polypropylene/ethylene copolymers, this corrugated plastic material allows for custom sizes (alongside a range of stock product options).

Corriplast also provides greater robustness and longevity than fibre-based materials, making it perfect for applications where durability and reusability are paramount. Corriplast conductive packaging is suited to clean room applications and medical settings.

SSI Schaefer ESD-safe Bins & Containers

SSI Schaefer containers and bins offer robust physical strength and electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection.

The range of sizes has been designed to integrate seamlessly into your racking or warehouse setup and to be compatible with euro pallets and most transport providers.

Manufactured from a rigid polypropylene material with easy-to-clean surfaces, these conductive handling products ensure longevity and are perfect for protecting virtually any static-sensitive products, parts, and components.

Conductive foam

We can customise nearly all ESD-safe packaging with a range of anti-static and conductive foams.

These specialist foams combat static charges and provide cushioning to protect against against shock, impact, and vibration. As such, using conductive foam helps ensure the safety of your sensitive items during transport and storage.

Anti-static bubble wrap, anti-static bags and anti-static foam rolls

In addition to our specialist manufactured products, we can provide a range of anti-static consumable packaging.

This includes popular pink anti-static bubble wrap, anti-static bubble bags and pink anti-static foam rolls.

Many of these products are available from stock, so can be delivered quickly, if you need something in a pinch.

FAQs about Anti-static and Conductive Packaging

What is anti-static packaging?

Anti-static packaging is packaging that can prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) from damaging products.

It will sometimes be referred to as conductive packaging, static dissipative packaging, ESD packaging or shielding packaging too. These different types of anti-static packaging all perform similar functions:

  • Anti-static packaging – this prevents electrostatic charges from being created when products rub against other objects or surfaces.
  • Conductive packaging – this type of packaging conducts any potential static charges away from sensitive parts, keeping any flow of electricity under control. It does not accumulate static charges.
  • Shielding packaging – this type of ESD-safe packaging provides a barrier that reduces electrostatic discharge.
  • Dissipative packaging – this type of packaging slows down the flow of any static charges, rather than directing it like conductive packaging.

Anti-static packaging is often made from materials like polythene or PET films that have additives that prevent static electricity. It can also be made from cardboard with specialist coatings, as well as foam.

How does conductive packaging work?

Conductive materials offer minimal electrical resistance, facilitating the flow of electrons across or through them to ground. Packaging using conductive materials can create a Faraday cage effect, protecting sensitive components from electrostatic discharge.

Can insulative materials be used for ESD-safe packaging?

Insulative materials hinder or completely block the flow of electrons across or through them, exhibiting high electrical resistance and making grounding difficult. Unlike anti-static materials, they retain charges for extended periods.
